about Jan "Stix" Pfennig

 
 

Jan "Stix" Pfennig moves to Berlin in 1999 to pursue his music studies and attends the prestigious Hanns-Eissler University of Music for jazz and popular music.

From 1999 to 2003, he serves as the drummer for the well-known chart-topping band "Band Ohne Namen," recording two albums, participating in numerous TV shows and concerts, and gaining his initial experiences in the music business.

From 1999 to 2011, he organizes a weekly jam session at the Acud Club in Berlin, maintaining connections within the city's music scene. In 2005, he joins the band Rotfront, recording two albums and touring throughout Europe until 2013. In 2009, he tours as the drummer for German rap star Marteria/Marsimoto across Germany.

From 2008 to 2015, he serves as the permanent drummer for German rap star SIDO. During this time, in 2011, he establishes the well-known Berlin hip-hop event “The Swagjam” with his hip-hop band "The Swag," captivating hip-hop fans every Tuesday at the Badehaus Club.

In April 2015, Jan "Stix" Pfennig publishes the rhythm concept SWAGDRUMMING in the AMA Publishing Group, focusing on the Inbetween-Shuffle and Quintuplet-Drumming. In 2017, he releases the second part SWAGDRUMMING II.

In mid-2017, Jan unleashed his solo Drum&Bass project, STIXONSPEED, propelling him into the spotlight at festivals and club parties.

In 2019, he serves as an Ableton Operator for "The Voice of Germany" band.

From 2019 to 2020, he tours as an electronic drummer with rap star KONTRA K. Since 2021, alongside his solo project STIXONSPEED, he also works as a drummer for the political rap artist Mal Élevé.

In 2023 and 2024, STIXONSPEED won the Drum&Bass Award Germany as the "BEST NATIONAL LIVE DRUM&BASS ACT".
